Law repeals automatic license suspension for drug conviction
March 30, 2016
New law repeals 1989 law that automatically suspended the driver’s license of any person convicted of drug crimes.
The law applies retroactively, meaning even if your license was suspended because of a conviction that occurred prior to the repeal you will still get your license back. The law also waives a $500 reinstatement fee drug offenders had to pay to get their licenses back.
The law applies to simple possession charges and possession with intent to distribute class D Marijuana. Charges of possession with intent to distribute Class A, B, and C drugs will still result in suspension.
